NEED FOR AN ASSOCIATION
The Indian Pet Industry is experiencing phenomenal growth. Estimates by Euromonitor International point to 10-15 percent growth per annum over the next few years.
Pet ownership in India is more popular than it has ever been. In fact in the major cities alone, there are an estimated 3.6 million pet dogs, not to mention cats, reptiles, fish, birds and small animals (rabbits and rodents like hamsters).
With the booming economy, middleclass Indians can now afford to pamper their pets with products that were originally considered to be out of their price range. Therefore, some Indian manufacturers of pet-related products who were originally only exporting to Western markets are now setting up manufacturing units to supply the domestic market. Their Western counterparts also have their eyes trained on the Indian market in a big way.
Also, with wages and production costs what they are in the West, retailers and distributors in those countries are increasingly looking to India for high quality and reasonably priced products.
But the Industry needs a collective voice to overcome some of the challenges it faces.
We firmly believe that we can jointly take our industry to greater heights in an efficient and ethical manner if we join together as a collective voice.
And this is what the Indian Pet Industry Association is all about.
